How long can my video be?
All entries can be no longer than 90 seconds.
Where do I go to submit my video?
After you make your video, upload to YouTube, Vimeo, SchoolTube or other site. Copy the link and paste it in the Wufoo submission entry form
Can I submit more than one entry?
What is the deadline to submit a video entry?
All contest entries must be submitted via the contest wufoo form and the videos must be posted online no later than March 21, 2014 11:59 p.m. EST
Who holds the copyright?
The entrant holds the copyright to the video submitted, but USA Science & Engineering Festival retains the unlimited right to use submitted video for non-profit public information purposes at no cost, in perpetuity. Please see the rules for more information
Can we work in teams on a video?
Absolutely, class teams are encouraged.
Can I use copyrighted movie clips and audio in my video?
We encourage you to use only original or “rights cleared” material in your video. If you use copyright movie clips or audio, you may run a copyright infringements risk. If you still feel you need to use copyrighted material in your video, be sure to limit it to a very small portion of your video, credit it properly, and consider adding a disclaimer text lower third “for educational fair use only”.
How will the videos be judged and how what will they be evaluated on?
The theme “Science in Fiction” is fairly broad, and we are looking for creativity as well as good science research. We encourage you to spend time researching your subject and cite your sources in the credits. A panel of judges will judge the videos on the following criteria:
1. Originality: Does your video capture the inventiveness behind cutting edge science and/or speculative science? Is it unique?
2. Theme: Did you show us something really cool about a scientific concept or invention, and how it is used in a TV show, movie, or game example(s)?
3. Awesome: Did your video amaze us, enlighten us, or maybe just blow us away???
When will the finalists be announced?
On or around April 4, 2014, 10 finalists will be announced. The public will then be invited to vote ( “like” on YouTube) for the People’s Choice award, which is given to the top scoring video.
When are the 3 final winners and People’s Choice winner announced?
During the weekend of April 26-27 2014 , the 4 winners will be announced at the contest awards event at the USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington, DC..
What is the age limit for this contest?
The contest is open for middle school and high school students in Grades 6-12.
Do you have to be a U.S. resident to participate?
No, the contest is open to international students. Please produce the video in English.
