Special Note: Crystal Lee will sign autographs directly after her performance.
Crystal Lee's dream to succeed in the higher echelons of pageants began when she was 15 years old and reached a dramatic pinnacle this year when she was crowned Miss California and this fall named first runner-up of the 2013 Miss America Pageant.
But beauty, poise and grace are not the only qualities that make this 22 year-old Stanford University graduate a standout: She's also a burgeoning talent in the field of high-tech, displaying a particular passion for entrepreneurial startups and furthering the role of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
You'll get the opportunity to learn more about Crystal - including how she is using her recent pageant successes to inspire others in STEM -when she appears next April as part of the Festival Expo's stellar lineup of science celebrity performers at the Washington, DC Convention Center.
So passionate is she about science and technology, particularly the need for more women in fields of STEM, that she used it as her platform issue for the Miss America competition.
In addition, last year, Crystal got involved with a startup, called Nanoly, a female-led startup based in Boulder, Colorado that uses nanotechnology to enable vaccines to be transported and delivered without the need for refrigeration to rural and impoverished areas of the world. Coincidentally, she was introduced to the startup by Miss Oakland 2011, the company's lead researcher.
