Vol. 3, No. 8

Stay tuned to the latest Festival news!

As the world celebrates 50 distinguished years of women in space, we invite you to commemorate this milestone in two ways with the Festival. First, visit the Festival's Role Models in Science & Engineering website to learn more about the lives and contributions of key women space explorers such as Sally Ride, Mae Jemison and Ellen Ochoa. And then, don't miss the opportunity to actually meet and interact with some of the most prominent female heroes in space exploration next April in Washington, D.C. at the Festival's X-STEM Extreme STEM Symposium! Presented by Northrop Grumman Foundation and MedImmune, this unforgettable event, complete with live demonstrations and hands-on workshops, will take you up close and personal with some of the most fascinating minds in science and technology. These include such female space pioneers as former NASA astronaut Kathryn Thornton, the second American woman to walk in space; Anousheh Ansari, the first female private space explorer, and astronomer Blake Bullock who is helping to usher in the next fascinating space telescope to replace Hubble. Don't miss out! Tickets are limited!

The Festival Expo continues to gain rapid momentum for April 2014, so get on board with us as an Exhibitor today to showcase your organization's extraordinary work and achievements in STEM! Plus, being an Exhibitor has its privileges during the week leading up to the Expo in Washington, DC, including being invited to our high-profile VIP Night, the U.S. News STEM Solutions Conference, and taking part in our Super Bowl of STEM exhibit opportunity. So sign up TODAY to join the growing number of other organizations as exhibitors, including: the Society of Neuroscience, Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the American Society for Cell Biology, the Marine Science Consortium, and more!

Get ready as Northrop Grumman Foundation returns to the Festival as a major sponsor, once again bringing its magic and expertise to heighten the Festival's focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)! The excitement next April at the Expo will go up a notch when the Foundation launches two new thrilling contests for students -- Cyber Patriot (a cyber defense competition) and VEX Robotics (a robotics team competition), all designed to test participants' skills in high-tech innovation!

Some of the most fascinating research on the planet is emanating from the laboratories of our Festival sponsors and exhibitors! You'll get to experience many of these innovations first-hand next April at the Festival Expo with leading professionals who are making these advances happen. But in the meantime, we want to keep you abreast in each issue of the Newsletter of just some of the exciting developments emerging from our sponsoring institutions, including the latest from Draper Laboratories on the air astronauts are breathing and research from San Diego University on how autism is a deeper brain disorder than previously thought!
