Vol. 3, No. 9

Thank you to all of our Festival Sponsors!

The USA Science & Engineering Festival X-STEM School program encourages youth leadership in STEM programs and we are seeking MORE schools to join us in our mission! Over 250 schools have registered as an X-STEM School and we look forward to doubling that number during the upcoming school year! The Festival will also host an X-STEM School Student Workshop on September 7th to promote this exciting program!

Promoting and encouraging pursuits in aerospace technology and other challenging areas of science and engineering are endeavors at which the Festival excels. But it's always nice when others notice as well, such as when the Air Force Association (AFA) recently announced that the Festival has been selected to receive the AFA's prestigious Hoyt S. Vandenberg Award in September for outstanding contributions to aerospace education!

Some of the most fascinating research on the planet is emanating from the laboratories of our Festival sponsors and exhibitors! You'll get to experience many of these innovations first-hand next April at the Festival Expo, but in the meantime, we want to keep you abreast in each issue of the Newsletter of just some of the latest developments emerging from our sponsoring institutions. Sponsors such as: Genetech and the new release of their DNA iPad application and the Univeristy of Florida's development of drones and submarines that will help prepare for hurricanes!

With their electrifying pop melodies, vivid lyrics and a penchant for science and high-tech, They Might Be Giants (aka TMBG) is one of the most enduring and creative bands on the alternative music scene today. Be sure to catch this two-time Grammy Award-winning group when it performs at the Festival Expo next April in Washington, DC! Ranging from TMBG's groundbreaking music in science education and television to its new innovative alternative album Nanobots (which has been critically acclaimed by Rolling Stone and others) -- this group is a must-see act at the Expo, so mark your calendars!
